    Community Connections Partnership

This web site was developed in partnership beween the Volunteer Manitoba Inc.(CONTACT), the Province of Manitoba Community Connections, the City of Winnipeg Community Services, and the technical development of SRMIS and the Rural Development Institute at Brandon University. Each partner has brought unique skills, perspectives, and experience to this project.

CONTACT, provided the most comprehensive community resource data warehouse and the ability to sustain the model, the Province of Manitoba brought its 'Community Connection' and its integrating approach to database management and the City of Winnipeg, Community Services brought their technical expertise and their geographic mapping application, which has accelerated the technological advancement of this site.

We have developed and beta tested the architecture of the site, its interactivity, and its partnership model with community organizations over a period of 2 years. After a much anticipated and sucessful web site launch at the City of Winnipeg Centennial Library downtown, we now are increasing the number of province-wide records through the expansion of community information partners, informal community organizations, rural and northern communities that wish to partner. One such initiative was the Manitoba Voluntary Sector Initiative. The MVSI prepared a directory of services in Manitoba, which has been incorporated to the CONTACT data warehouse. We anticipate an increase to our count from the current 4,000 (2005) to approximately 8,000 records.

This project has propelled CONTACT Community Information to become one of the most interactive community data warehouses in North America. This project has also positioned us to meet community information needs in more diverse ways and has set the course to meet community needs in the future. If you wish to become a community information partner, please contact Edward Mah at: (204) 287-8827 / (Toll Free outside the Winnipeg area) 1-866-COM-INFO (266-4636) or Email your question/request to:vmproject@mts.net

    Community Partnerships

We have incorporated the 'Health Services Directory' (formerly Encompass) community database from the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) (You can view community health information at: http://www.wrha.mb.ca) and you can access rural community farm information through our partnership with the Manitoba Farm & Rural Stress Line (MFRSL). (You can view their site at: http://www.ruralstress.ca) all of these linkages utilize the CONTACT Community Information data warehouse and its unique search tools.

These partners are an example of our extensive network of community information builders, which supports our goal of providing resource information to the Manitoba community through a central data warehouse (CONTACT). By reducing the duplication of community information and centralizing the information to one source, we can disseminate in a more efficient fashion and provide better access to the public.
